Policy


CAMBRIDGE CITY KORFBALL CLUB EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES AND EQUITY STATEMENT

1. Cambridge City Korfball Club (“the Club”) is committed to ensuring that equity is incorporated across all aspects of its development. In doing so, it acknowledges and adopts the following Sport England definition of sports equity:

“Sports equity is about fairness in sport, equality of access, recognising inequalities and taking steps to address them. It is about changing the culture and structure of sport to ensure it becomes equally accessible to everyone in society.”

2. The Club respects the rights, dignity and worth of every person, and will treat everyone equally within the context of their sport, regardless of age, gender, race, ethnicity, religious belief, sexuality or social/ economic status.

3. The Club is committed to everyone having the right to enjoy their sport in an environment free from threat of intimidation, harassment and abuse.

4. All Club members have a responsibility to oppose discriminatory behaviour and promote equality of opportunity.

5. The Club will deal with any incidence of discriminatory behaviour seriously, according to its own, and its NGB Disciplinary procedures.

CAMBRIDGE CITY KORFBALL CLUB EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES & EQUITY POLICY

This Document sets out Cambridge City Korfball Club’s Equal Opportunity and Equity Policy (“the Policy”). It is essential that everyone fully understands the principle and operation of the Policy and that we all accept responsibility for its overall effectiveness.

1. Aims of the Policy

1.1. Cambridge City Korfball Club recognises that certain sections of the community have been affected by past discrimination and may be denied the opportunity to participate equally and fully in sport at all levels.

1.2. This Policy has been produced to prevent/tackle any potential/current discrimination or other unfair treatment, whether intentional or unintentional, direct or indirect, against its staff, volunteers and members. We aim to ensure that Cambridge City Korfball Club reflects and meets the needs of the local community and incorporates equal opportunities into all areas of our work.

1.3. Cambridge City Korfball Club aims to:
1.3.1. Ensure that the make-up of the Management Committee, volunteer team and membership at all levels reflects the make-up of the local community.
1.3.2. Establish good links with organisations or groups of people facing discrimination.
1.3.3. Ensure that facilities are accessible for all members of the community.
1.3.4. Increase awareness within the Club of the needs of those who face discrimination and the effects of discrimination in society in general.
1.3.5. Consider equal opportunities in all areas of the Club’s services and work.
1.3.6. Consider establishing specific projects to promote equality of opportunity.

2. Statement of Intent

2.1. Cambridge City Korfball Club is fully committed to the principles of equality of opportunity and is responsible for ensuring that no staff, volunteer or member receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of age, gender, disability, race, ethnic origin, nationality, colour, parental or marital status, pregnancy, religious belief, class or social background, sexual preference or political belief.

2.2. Cambridge City Korfball Club will ensure that there will be open access to all those who wish to participate in all aspects of sporting and leisure activities and that they are treated fairly.

3. Responsibilities, Communication & Implementation

Responsibilities

3.1. Cambridge City Korfball Club is responsible for ensuring that the Policy is followed and for dealing with any actual or potential breaches.

3.2. All staff, volunteers and members have responsibilities to respect, act in accordance with and thereby support and promote the spirit and intentions of the Policy.

3.3. The Chairperson has overall responsibility for ensuring compliance.

Communication

3.4. A copy of the Policy will be made available to all existing staff, volunteers and members of Cambridge City Korfball Club and will be posted on the Club’s website.

3.5. All members will be made aware of the existence of the Policy when they join the Club.

3.6. A summary of any revisions to the Policy will be published on the Club’s website.

Implementation

3.7. Equal opportunities will be considered in all aspects of the service the Club provides: recruitment of staff and volunteers and membership.

3.8. Cambridge City Korfball Club aspires to a diverse Management Committee and volunteer team, the composition of which reflects that of the broader local community in terms of gender, ethnicity and disability. In order to bring about this diversity, we undertake to:
3.8.1. provide full and fair consideration of all applications for all jobs and roles.
3.8.2. assist all our staff and volunteers to realise their full potential by ensuring that they receive fair consideration of their training needs and opportunities for personal development.
3.8.3. wherever possible, modify recruitment and employment practices and procedures to reduce barriers experienced by members of disadvantaged social groups in seeking and during employment with the Club.
3.8.4. regularly review our recruitment, selection and training procedures to ensure that they are fair and reflect current best practice.

3.9. In our training and development of Teachers and Coaches, Cambridge City Korfball Club will strive to ensure that they:
3.9.1. establish and implement professional and ethical values and practice.
3.9.2. promote and apply the principles and practices of equal opportunities.
3.9.3. promote positive images of people with special or different needs.
3.9.4. ensure appropriate training / development opportunities are available to all our teachers / coaches.
3.9.5. encourage high expectations and standards of achievement from all they teach.
3.9.6. involve everyone in meaningful and appropriate activity to ensure a quality experience.
3.9.7. help everyone to achieve their full potential.

3.10. In our involvement with officials and administrators, Cambridge City Korfball Club will expect them to:
3.10.1. adopt, promote and practice the values of the Club.
3.10.2. ensure that participation can be enjoyed by all.
3.10.3. provide meaningful and appropriate experiences, which recognise and value the diversity of the participants.
3.10.4. actively encourage the participation and involvement of people from disadvantaged groups of the community.

3.11. Language or behaviour designed to be offensive to any of the groups outlined in the Policy is unacceptable and will not be tolerated in the Club. Disciplinary action will be taken where appropriate in line with the Club’s own disciplinary policy and, where appropriate, will be referred on to the Cambridgeshire Korfball Association, the English Korfball Association or the British Korfball Association.

4. Monitoring & Evaluation

4.1. Once approved, the Policy will apply for 3 years before a formal review takes place, unless any proposals to the Management Committee, or a legislation chance, require an interim review and/or amendment.

4.2. At the time of the review, a mechanism will be put in place to allow all staff, volunteers and members to be part of the process.

4.3. On an annual basis, statistical information will be produced by the Secretary for the Management Committee and will be published internally and externally to show whether the make-up of the Management Committee, volunteer team and Club membership reflects the make-up of the local community.
