On Friday 23rd March 2012, the CCKC social team held the annual fundraising quiz to raise funds for the club. All in all, 13 teams entered with an excellent City contingent, with teams being formed by Andy & Maura, Simon, Lucy, Antony and Pieter, Halim, Paul, George, Rob W, Rob N, John R, Rick and Hannah, Aggie, Kirsten and Astrid and Jonathon (who's friends, once again, managed to make some mischief!) Special mention to Gavin for bringing along a whole team worth of non-korfers in addition to his own! We also got a good amount of support from Tigers, who entered 2 teams- one of current players and one of ex-players.The quiz was divided into 8 rounds- a picture round, a dingbat round, and question rounds on sport, book and film, music, geography, food and drink and science and nature. Although the general consensus was that the questions were easier than last year, Clare's food & drink round proved to be the cause of many dropped points- something to brush up on for next year! The City team 'The Fab five (John R, George, Rob W, Rob N and Hannah) + Rick' made what my sports-round writer (aka my brother) thought would be a tricky round look easy, and Gavin and Sian managed to ruffle my friend's feathers by beating them with full marks in the books and film round. Things were looking tight at half time, and continued to be so right until the end but the City dream-team of John R, George, Rob W, Rob N, Hannah and Rick managed to triumph throughout, regaining the number 1 quiz team spot for City after having lost to a combination of Phoenix and Uni last year (although perhaps their absence this year may have had something to do with it…..?) 2nd prize went to the rather nicely named (if not frequently acted upon!) 'Buy Jenni a Gin and Tonic' (consisting of my parents, sister and aunt and uncle) and third prize to 'We rather be on team rounders' led by City players Gavin and Sian. A special mention also to 'Trying and Failing' AKA Aggie, Kristen, Astrid & Co who took home the wooden spoon in good humour (although apparently got some help with some of the questions from the nice man behind the bar!)
Extra money was also raised for the club through a 'Guess the Number of Sweets in the Jar' contest (won by Maura) and the raffle. Special thanks to Rick, Paul and Simon & Lucy (who's cake was so good that apparently my cat stole some of it!) for providing some extra raffle prizes on the night, to Paul for providing some free pens to fill the quiz sheets in, to Antony for co-ordinating the sweets in the jar contest, and to Antony, Rose and Mary for all round helpfulness and 'hands-on-deck' throughout the evening.
Clare and I are very pleased to report that we reached our fund-raising target of £300 from the quiz. Thank you very much to all who came along.
In addition, we would like to thank the following companies who provided us with raffle prizes for the event:
