We Survived the Spartan Race: Cambridge!
A message from Gavin…….(check out the pictures)
On Sunday, nine city korfers descended upon the Spartan race. Seven were racing under the City Korf banner and two traitors ran with a group of barbarous non-korfers. The City team decided to run as a team and leave no man behind…. which lasted for about ten seconds. Jonathon led the treachery off the line and was quickly followed by the Guinness loving Kiwi. Never trust a Kiwi.
The remaining City warriors battled on for at least 300 metres before Lucy B's fitness surprised us all. The team splintered further and Mary led the breakaway, swiftly followed by Gavin and Yan. Phil and Lucy were left to battle it out with the rounders team. The runners bravely attacked hills while carrying tyres, crawled through mud, under barbed wire, climbed walls, carried rocks and climbed cargo nets, only to be faced with yet more obstacles.
Yan then decided to flee and wasn't seen until the finish line. The remaining obstacles included more barbed wire (this time crawling through ice) a brief dip in the lake, a rope climb over a wall and jumping over a small fire. On the approach to the finish line the korfers faced the final challenge: big men with even bigger sticks. All of the korfers did their best to avoid the approaching menace, but many were felled by the wannabe gladiators. The group then re-formed the phalanx and attacked the hog roast and beer stands. Victory!
At the end of the day the intrepid warriors cried out for the next challenge!
Gavin and Mary were the victors for City (two people are a team, any solo runners don't count!). An honourable mention to Phil, I think he ran the race for two people.
Until next time….
Aroo
