City take the roar out of Tigers

Cambridge City Korfball Club took the roar out of Cambridge Tigers last night, beating the existing title holders 11-10 to take the Cambridge Division One league title.

The historical win ends Tigers' six year dominance at the top of the table.

City went out fighting and put four points on the board before Tigers even looked like replying.

Its experienced line-up, including England international Carla Bennett and Ireland international Rachel Camina, dominated for the first 30 minutes of the game to lead 9-2 at the break.

But the game was far from won and Tigers clawed back in the second half, steadily reducing the gap until coming within a whisker of upsetting City's lead.

Despite only putting the ball in the basket twice in the second half, some tight defence and controlled attack meant City had done enough to secure the win, and the title.

City goal scorers were: Rachel Camina (1), Nick Collier (1 plus 1 penalty ), Simon McGregor (1), Sian Mawditt (2), Andy Rutter (3), Dave Timney (2 penalties).
