Training

Seniors

Cambridge City Seniors is open to men and women aged 14 and over.

We welcome all new members, beginners, inexperienced and experienced alike. Whether you play recreationally or competitively, whether you are at the start of your Korfball development, or towards the end, we have plenty to offer!

We currently have a total of six senior teams competing in leagues; these are comprised of one National League team and five teams in the CKA Leagues.

Club sessions are at Kelsey Kerridge Sports Centre (Gonville Place, Cambridge - opposite Parkers Piece) on Tuesdays, 8pm - 10pm. The First & Second Team Squads also train on Thursdays, 9-10pm at Bottisham Village College during high season.

The first training session is free, and, thereafter you can choose pay either on a pay as you go basis, or on a monthly basis. We offer concessionary rates to those who are unemployed, or under the age of 18.

For further information, or to book your place, please contact Hannah Pawson, either by email (hannah@sidespin.org) or by telephone (07963 906097).

We look forward to seeing you!

Juniors

Junior training is open to both boys and girls aged 7-14 (Key Stage 2 and Key Stage 3). The juniors train from 4.30pm-6pm on Sundays at Hills Road Sports and Tennis Centre (Purbeck Road, Cambridge, CB2 8PF). Training follows term time and the current dates are – 6 Jan, 13 Jan, 20 Jan, 27 Jan, 3 Feb (then one weekend off for half term), 17 Feb, 24 Feb, 2 Mar, 9 Mar, 16 Mar. Cost is £30 for the term.

What happens at Junior training? We start with a warm-up and end with a game each week. During the session, we concentrate on improving fundamental skills, such as catching and passing, and work on fitness levels through fun exercises. Then we work on Korfball skills, such as shooting, team work, attacking and defending. There are always helpers on hand to give help with understanding the drills and exercise plus answer any questions you have.

Tykes

Cambridge City Tykes is open to children between the ages of three and six. We train on the first and third Sunday of the month, 16:30-17:15 at Hills Road Sports and Tennis Centre, Purbeck Road, Cambridge. Cost is £2.

In accordance with the Sportcoach UK Programme for Long Term Athlete Development, we focus on FUNdamental skills, rather than sport specific training. Effectively, we are therefore offering a Multi-sports Programme. Each training session includes exercises to assist the development of Body & Space Awareness, Travelling & Locomotor Skills / Directions & Pathways, Balancing, Jumping & Landing, Evasion, Ball Handling, Throwing, Catching and Teamwork.

We actively encourage parental involvement, particularly with the younger children, as it is our experience that the child benefits more from this one to one relationship.

After each meeting, we have a party tea (drinks, sandwiches, savoury snacks, fruit and some goodies too!), which is included in the cost.
